Macadamia Nut Honey

Our Mac Nut Honey is straight from our hives. This Big Island favorite is a deep amber colored honey that is flavorful, bold, rich, and nutty like the macadamia nut itself.   One of Hawaii’s strongest and darkest honey, the Macadamia Nut honey is a popular varietal honey with both locals and visitors alike.  If you enjoy this honey, quantities are limited and we sells out every year.  Hawaii is also one of the few places you can order Macadamia Nut Honey.  In Pahala, there is a small period of time when the Macadamia Nut tree bloom along with the Ohia-Lehua.  We separate this floral nutty honey and provide it as Pahala Wild Flower Honey.

 

Hawaiian Mac Nut

The Macadamia Nut, also called bush nut, maroochi nut, bauple nut, or Queensland nut, is also Hawaii’s nut.  Macadamia trees are native to Australia, but grow surprisingly well in Hawaii’s temperate zone.  In 1882 these trees were first planted near in Kapulena on the Big Island of Hawaii.  The macadamia trees were first commercially grown in Hawaii and the Big Island is one of the world’s largest producers of macadamia nuts.  At one time, Hawaii produced 90 percent of the world’s macadamia nuts.

If you have a passion for Macadamia nuts, the reason they are so expensive is that it takes much longer for the trees to bear fruit. If you grow the tree from seed, you’ll have to wait four or five years to taste the first homegrown macadamia nut.

If your journey takes you to the Kilauea volcano, you will pass through the small town of Pahala.  As you begin the assent to Kilauea, on both side of the roadway are old Macadamia Nut orchards. This is one of the few places to stop a walk in the majestic Mac Nut orchards with views of the Pacific Ocean.
